About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you?

Q: Where is Air based?
A: We operate from Richmond, ten minutes' drive from the A1.

Who are you?

Q:
What's with the name?
A: Air (previously AiR) originally stood for Arts in Richmondshire, the district where we were funded to provide our arts development activity when we started. Latterly our work is taking us further afield and to reflect this we have dropped the reference to Richmondshire and just gone with Air. Depending on your point of view this now makes the name completely neutral or interestingly enigmatic - take your pick!

So it's arts where..?

Q:
So where do you operate? Why do you list events outside the district?
A: A lot of our work is centred on Richmondshire, but we also provide services and programmes across the whole county, often working with other arts organisations in York and North Yorkshire.

We did once limit our event listing coverage to Richmondshire, but we found that people here like to travel to events just outside the district boundaries, just as people from outside like to travel in. So if you know of events at the edge of our range, whether in Cumbria or County Durham, or Hambleton, Harrogate or Craven Districts, do let us know. But whether for right or wrong, we've decided not to include events in Darlington, which is pretty well served by "What's On" guides.

Displaying events

Q: Do you charge for displaying events on your website?
A: No. But we reserve the right to edit copy for style or length, or to decline or remove an event if, in our sole view, it is unsuitable for this site.

Selling tickets

Q: Do you charge event organisers for selling tickets online?
A: Yes, our standard charge to event organisers is £0.75 per ticket sold. No sale, no fee.

Terms and Conditions

Q: What are your Terms and Conditions for online ticket purchasers? Or for event organisers wanting to sell tickets online through Air?
A: Click Purchasers or Organisers to see the relevant T&C.

So how..?

Q: How can I display my event, and maybe sell tickets?
A: See where it says 'Register Event Organiser' at the very top of the screen? Click there to get started.

Funding

Q: Do you provide funding for the arts?
A: No, though we do administer Richmondshire District Council's funding to two of the district's major arts providers: Richmond's Georgian Theatre Royal and The Swaledale Festival. However, we can provide funding advice to artists or arts organisations; we operate a modest guarantee-against-loss scheme as part of our rural touring support programme; and we may be able to provide 'in kind' support through other development programmes.

Employment

Q: Do you ever employ artists or arts professionals?
A: Sometimes we have the opportunity to do so, when specific projects require. Keep an eye on our News & Announcements section.

Working with rural touring companies

Q: Are you happy to receive information from rural touring companies about shows and productions?
A: Definitely. We don't provide seasonal 'menus' of shows for our local promoters, but can make recommendations to them of possible shows for presentation all year round.
