Current Projects

As well as supporting arts organisations and individuals, we also run our own creative projects. Contact us for information about any of the projects below:

Dance in the Dales
On behalf of Richmondshire Culture - the district cultural consortium - we have managed to secure initial funding to start up a programme of dance development activity to inspire people of all ages to learn some moves and prove that dancing isn't just for Christmas, it's for life!

Whether it's Strictly Come Dancing, Dirty Dancing, or Billy Elliot people are into, our dance development co-ordinator Debbie Waistell has plans for them.  Currently she is running street dance sessions in Reeth, Leyburn and Colburn for 11 to 18 year olds, and subject to ongoing funding will be rolling out new prorgammes in the new year across the distirct. Let us know if you're interested.

Young Persons Film Making
Two short films are 'on the slate' to be made by young people aged between 14 and 19 under the guidance of professional film director Ross Anderson. With an overarching theme of 'healthy living', the filming for the first one is underway, being made by four young Quentin Tarantinos in the Leyburn area, shooting a terrifying tale of how the effects of a wind farm can change people - it's Blair Witch meets The Whicker Man!

The second film is scheduled for the new year and anyone interested in being involved can contact us.

York & North Yorkshire Voluntary Arts Partnership
In March 2008 Air was contracted by the York and North Yorkshire Voluntary Arts Partnership to deliver a one-year project to provide a programme of practical help and support for voluntary arts organisations in North Yorkshire and York. This included establishing a network and website, running training and development events, providing newsletters and best-practice information, and organising a celebratory conference.

The new website -www.celebratenorthyorkshire.org - has been launched and has been designed so that voluntary arts organisations, groups and societies can upload their own information, as well as have access and links to events, information, resources, case studies, examples of best practice, a directory of other groups operating in York & North Yorkshire.

This one-year pliot project was funded by North Yorkshire County Council, the City of York Council and the National Lottery, through Arts Council England.

We are currently waiting to hear on further funding to enable us to build on the success of the pilot project and develop and extend  the support for voluntray arts for a further two years. If the fundraising bid is successful, the next two year phase will start in January 2010.

Cultural Events and Festivals Marketing
A new project we have planned is the development of ongoing online ticketing, marketing and promotional services for a network of festivals and cultural events in the deeply rural dales area of north Yorkshire.

We plan to co-ordinate and extend the promotion of cultural activity programmes ,develop collaborative working, provide specialist marketing and publicity expertise, build audiences and increase the capacity and effectiveness of the many arts and cultural fesitvals and event organisers in the area.

In addition, we will offer programmes of training, mentoring and professional development for promoters and event organisers to extend and improve their promotional skills and experience.

A decision on funding to establish the new service over a two year period is pending.
